Official Visit from Itteville in May 2016

Friday 27th - Monday 30th May

Our Official Visit from Itteville takes place over the Bank Holiday weekend at the end of May. This is also the weekend when we are having our Newick Festival, with many other clubs and societies organising events, so it promises to be a very exciting few days.

Friday 27th May

The weekend will start on a solemn note on the Friday afternoon, with the dedication at 2 pm of the new Memorial Stone on The Green, commemorating all those who fell in the First and Second World Wars and subsequent conflicts. Our visitors from Itteville will arrive by coach later in the day, around 6 pm, at Newick School. Dinner and entertainment during the rest of the evening will be at the hosts' discretion.

Saturday 28th May

During the day, there will be a Food and Produce fair on The Green, with many suppliers of local products displaying and selling their wares. There will also be music and various other items of entertainment. In the afternoon, Plants4Presents on Fletching Common will be having an Open Day and selling teas, and there will be guided walks available for the more intrepid to make their way there on foot. There will also be football and cricket taking place on the Recreation ground.

For Twinning, our main event will take place in the evening, when we have a Gala Dinner in the Village Hall and a performance of a play by the Itteville Theatre Group, Tirade et Chant. The play is entitled, Le Costume d'Eve, and is a light-hearted whodunit. It will be in French, but we are assured that much of the action is visual and they will also provide us with a synopsis in English. This is taking a lot of effort on their part and ours to put on, but we are sure it will be a most exciting and entertaining evening. We are also very grateful for the support of members of NADS, who are helping us enormously with the staging and production of this one-off event.

The evening will start with a drinks reception and canapés, followed by a main course served at each table. The performance of the play will then take place, with desserts and cheese served during the interval. After the interval, there will be the traditional dénouement (to use a French expression!).

Sunday 29th May

On Sunday, the main focus switches to the Recreation Ground. Members of Twinning will be running our ever-popular Café René at the Sports Pavilion, which will serve coffee and a continental breakfast during the morning. There will be a church service in a marquee and there will also be various activities for children. At lunchtime, there will be a Big Picnic, and everyone is encouraged to bring food, rugs, chairs, gazebos, etc. and have a mass picnic on the Rec.

In the afternoon, there will be maypole dancing, historical walks, a music concert in the church, and (if you are still hungry!) cream teas. Finally, in the evening there will be a BBQ and pig roast (just in case you are still hungry!), and a ceilidh.

Monday 30th May

Our visitors will leave from the Green, and we will start the diet!

Please Join In!

We are expecting about 55 people from Itteville, so we will need quite a lot of accommodation. We hope that as many members as possible of Twinning will be able to offer their help. As we have always said, you don't need to speak French to host. When there is a will to communicate, it is always possible to find a way - Franglais, sign-language or whatever. The most important thing is to enjoy yourselves and keep your sense of humour intact. It really is a lot of fun!

If you are able to host, please download and return the accommodation form, so that we have the details of what you have to offer, and we will then match hosts to suitable guests.
