Official Visits

Our Official Visits between Newick and Itteville are the most important events of the year, because they give us a chance to meet our opposite numbers. This is, of course, what Twinning is all about. There is so much difference between visiting France as a holidaymaker, as compared with staying with a French family. Even if you don't speak French, it's always possible to communicate, and afterwards you may be inspired to brush up your language skills.

When Twinning was first established in 1992, we endeavoured to have two Official Visits each year, but this quickly became unsustainable. For the last 20 years or so, we have worked to a pattern in which we visit Itteville during the odd-numbered years and Itteville come to Newick in the even-numbered years. The visits usually take place at the end of May, but the exact dates vary due to the fact that English and French public holidays don't always coincide.

2018 Official Visit from Itteville- Friday 18th - Monday 21st May

This is the main event of the Twinning year, and this time it is the turn of our friends in Itteville to visit us. They will arrive on the Friday evening and depart on the Monday morning, and our Committee are already starting to make detailed plans of what we will be doing during the weekend. Please note that this is the French Pentecôte weekend, so the Monday is a public holiday in France. However, it is the week before our end of May Bank Holiday.

We would like to welcome a coach-load of about 50 people, so please make a note of the dates in your diary for next year. We will be sending out more details in due course, together with a form for members to return if you would like to host some of our guests.

Please note that this is the French Pentecôte weekend, so the Monday is a public holiday in France. However, it is the week before our end of May Bank Holiday. Since we set the date, the Royal Family have followed our lead and decided that Saturday 19th May will be the day that Prince Harry marries Meghan Markle. Given that the French are fascinated by our Royal Family, we hope to make the most of this and lay on something special for everyone. Please watch this space...

On the Saturday evening, we will have a Gala Dinner and entertainment in the Village Hall, which will be free for all host families and their French guests. There will then be a coach outing on the Sunday, and our guests will leave early on the Monday morning.

We would like to welcome a coach-load of about 50 people from Itteville, and of course we will need to find hosts for them all to stay. If you are able to offer accommodation, please could you download, fill out and return the following application form.
